I’m not big on Astrology. It’s hard for me to believe that one’s fate can be dictated by celestial bodies hanging out in the sky. I’ve always been more of an Astronomer (a teacher of mine would always tell the class not to confuse the latter for the former or the offender would get kicked out). However, I can’t deny that there is a certain lure to the concept that one’s personality can be mapped out by the stars. We are a complex race and there is something comforting in the thought that we can truly know each other by simply mapping out one’s horoscope.
Today at the 9-to-5 a co-worker was reading a book about astrology and we began discussing the subject. I thought I knew a thing or two, but she introduced me to a few new concepts. For instance, the sign we are all familiar with is “Sun Sign,” but according to the zodiac we have a “Moon Sign” as well. The Sun Sign dictates one’s outer personality and the Moon Sign one’s inner thoughts. I’m sure many of you know this and are scoffing at me. Whatever, I told you I don’t have much respect for the field!
However, I went to a website she showed me, Always Astrology, and you can plug in your birth date, place and time and it gives you a fancy little chart based upon that info. Mine looks like this:

Born December, 17 1988 at 6:07 PM in New Orleans, Louisiana.
It looks complicated, but it’s easy enough to navigate on the site. According to this my Sun Sign is Sagittarius (duh!) and my Moon Sign is Aries (oh?). I found the site’s descriptions of my personality surprisingly and exhilaratingly accurate and I rather enjoyed the experience of breaking down my thoughts and actions based on my horoscope. So, while I may not necessarily believe in the “science” behind astrology, it was fun to learn something new and rather fascinating to talk to someone who so wholeheartedly believes in it. Really, the experience of learning something new, especially from someone who is passionate, is always rewarding.
Are you a fan of astrology?
Yeah dragons!

Aren’t serial killers and unsolved murders fascinating? I sure think so. I knew a few things about the Zodiac Killer before watching this film, but now that I have feasted my eyes upon David Fincher’s rendition of this real life killing spree I have become obsessed. I have been trying to learn all I can about the Zodiac Killer and forming theories of my own. It is truly a fascinating case. And just look at this creep.

That’s what he supposedly looked like. Yikes.
Zodiac was a great film. It may have been well over two hours, but it was well paced (it covers a time span of over twenty years after all), incredibly historically accurate, and truthful - there is no happy ending involved. The film reminded us that cases are not always solved, and the bad guy isn’t always caught.
Maybe this is why I have had trouble sleeping.
