Dilemma: Do I want to have kids now so I can dress them like this or would I rather just try and fit into these outfits myself?
This is my future.

One New Orleans hub that I feel is often totally ignored by locals is the famous Canal Street. Once the place to go for entertainment and shopping in New Orleans it is now known for it’s mammoth hotels and flashy but sketchy pawn shops and stores that sell wigs. Not all is lost, however. With the grand re-opening of the Joy Theater, renovations at the Saenger and some new stores opening in Canal Place I feel that one day Canal Street will reemerge to it’s former glory. It is this hope that fueled my latest street style search. Thankfully it’s not difficult to spot fashionable individuals on Canal Street.

“Here’s the thing about being a girlie girl. I think there was a generation before us that felt like they needed to act like men to be taken seriously, like they had to use their sexuality to take control of people. I don’t judge people for that. But I don’t want to take all my clothes off and use myself as an object. It’s part of the machine and I don’t think that necessarily pushes us forward as women. I think you can still be girlie and maintain your power. The fact that you associate being girlie with being non-threatening, that is I mean, I can’t think of more blatant example of playing into exactly the thing that we’re trying to fight against. I can’t be girlie? Why do I need to be defined aesthetically by someone else’s perceptions of what makes me seem like someone who should be taken seriously? I’m going to wear whatever I want to wear, because I’m expressing myself, and I deserve that right. And I like the way that looks. You’re not demeaning yourself by acting girlie. I think the fact that people are associating being girlie with weakness, that needs to be examined. Not me dressing girlie. I don’t think that undermines my power at all.”

Fascinating article about a vintage inspired, environmentally friendly car built here in New Orleans. And the photos featured in the article were taken by my friend Amy!

Someone convince me not to buy these. I want them all!

Last week I decided to grow my close cropped hair out again (thanks to reoccurring dreams in which I have long hair signaling this internal desire). Today I am unable to tear myself away from Sephora.com (curse those free samples!). This week I am planning to throw out every item of clothing I don’t wear (which consists mostly of t-shirts and old jeans) and updating it with more blouses, dresses and skirts. My younger, tomboyish self would shake her tiny fist in my direction if she saw me now. It’s amazing how things change.

The Harry Potter movies may be ending, with the July 16 release of Deathly Hallows Part 2 — but the world’s interest in Emma Watson, the 21-year-old British actress who has played Hermione Granger on screen since the franchise’s start, will continue to grow, thanks to her gamine looks and her evolution as a fashion star.
Here, see the young actress at her most chic, whether it’s walking red carpets with her costars, hanging out at Glastonbury, or making commercials with Mario Testino…
