Pretty much my motto.
(via witanddelight)
My friend Stephanie and I love to eat. Seriously, we’re mental fat asses. Since she is moving to the far away land of Baton Rouge this fall, she and I made a pact to eat at as many New Orleans based restaurants as possible before she leaves. A few weeks ago we tried Slim Goodies. Steph was vacationing for a while so the challenge was put on hold, but now she’s back in town and so we journeyed to our second restaurant this morning - Surreys Uptown.
Surry’s is a small local chain that calls itself a “Cafe and Juice Bar.” They serve primarily (if not entirely) local food and have many vegetarian and vegan options on their menu, which is especially important considering Stephanie is (mostly) pescetarian. We went to the location Uptown. It was small and homey with an outside patio and local artist’s work hanging on the interior walls. We choose to sit in a comfy booth inside.
When we received our menus, we had a dilemma. As at Slim Goodies we took a long time to order because every item sounded so delectable. Finally, I settled for the Boudin Breakfast Biscuit and Steph got the Breakfast Burrito. Long story short, everything was unsurprisingly and delightfully delicious. For real. We tried each other’s food and agreed. We both ordered hash browns with our meals which turned out to be seasoned red potatoes. This was definitely the highlight because 1) I covet potatoes and 2) they were the best hashbrowns I have ever eaten. Perfectly seasoned. Oh man. Craving them right now.
Final score:

Two thumbs up!
My dear friend, Stephanie, and I made a pact at a sleepover last night - To eat out, twice a week, at as many local restaurants as possible.
This morning we ate breakfast at Slim Goodies.
Slim Goodies is a diner on Magazine which just happens to be next to two of my favorite stores - American Apparel and Buffalo Exchange - so how I’ve missed this place for so many years is beyond me. The walls on the inside are covered with Polaroid pictures of previous customers looking happy as well as New Orleans related photographs and posters. We were seated in a comfy booth and promptly given menus which stated that the restaurant was there to serve New Orleanians “come hell or high water.”
My only complaint about the place is that it was next to impossible for me to decide what to order. It all looked so good! Plus, there is a lot to choose from. Just look at the menu! I decided to try the “Americano” - an omelette composed of onions, peppers, cheddar cheese and bacon that I can only assume is named after the fifth track on Lady Gaga’s new album. It was deliciousness! The thing had numerous full strips of bacon inside. Talk about heavenly. My mouth is watering now just thinking about it.
So, our first venture was a success! We’ve got a list of a lot more places to try and I can’t wait! Although, I am wondering if I should include how much weight I gain and money I lose in future posts. Worth it!
