Complimentary

Here are some great compliments I’ve received recently. I’m not bragging - I just have self-esteem issues, so indulge me.

“Of our entire group of friends, your life is the most put-together.”

A beloved friend of mine told me this (or something very similar, I apologize if I misquoted) recently at a party. I hadn’t realized how lucky I was before she said it, but being a full-time salary employee at a public university with health benefits and retirement plus a regular writing gig and a boyfriend at 23 is pretty unusual and awesome.

“I think you and Brooke are competing for best dressed in this office.”
“Brooke wins.”

This exchange I heard accidentally eavesdropping. Also said recently to me are “You need to go shopping with me” and “You do!” in response to a joke I made about looking good. Does this mean, after years of insecurity and indifference, that I am finally a recognized fashionista?!

“I love you.”

When someone new tells you this even though they also think you’re a crazy person it feels pretty good.

I guess my point is I have very little to complain about and you probably do, too. Life is good!
